Digital South Asia Library, Amazing Resource

I have been having a conversation with a reader and he mentioned the Digital South Asia Library at the University of Chicago. I thought I should pass this great reference on to all. The library provides digital materials for reference and research on South Asia for scholars, public officials, business people and anyone else interested in this area of the world. It contains map, photos, books, all on line. There are some very cool photo libraries, including the Keagle and Hensley photo library.

One of the books we were looking at is the A Historical Atlas of South Asia by Joseph E. Schwartzberg, just an amazing piece of work of maps and historical information.
Here is the link for it, dig in and take a look at some of the map pages

Sharing World of Maps Clip Art with Your Team or Group

We love getting questions from customers, it lets us know what is going on and where we need to pay attention with our collections. A question on sharing our editable World of Maps with your team came in today from Jennifer.

Questions:
I was wondering, if we purchased the CD-ROM, would it be restricted to a single/private user or could it be used for business across the team/group?

Answer:
Hi Jennifer, thank you for visiting our site and for your question. You are free to use the maps across your team. We want you to be able to do your job and sharing with your coworkers is part of that. If you are going big, with lots of people and offices then we do have licenses for that, but for your regular team that you work with every day, feel free to share.

Using World of Maps in an Upcoming Book

Customer Question: I am interested in using your maps in a book that I will be publishing, are there royalty fees to pay? do I need to indicate source of the maps on each page or at the end of the book?

Answer:  Thank you for visiting our site and for your question. You are free to use the maps in your book, there are no additional royalties that you have to pay and you do not have to mention the source. If you want to somewhere that is cool but we don't require it at all.

The only restriction we have is if you are making a map clipart book, for that we have a license but other than that no problem at all. Would love to know the subject matter and when you get it done let me know and I will put a link to it on our blog if you want.

very cool, thank you for asking, please let me know if you have questions. Check out all our maps at www.mapsfordesign.com

Using World of Maps for Slide Presentations

Customer Question: I am interested in the World of Maps for slide presentations on travels. Have a iMac. Will it work. I am look specificially for INDIA, NEPAL, BHUTAN, TIBET?

Answer: Thank you for visiting our site and for your question. Yes you will be able to use our maps with your iMac. We have three formats. So if you have PowerPoint or Keynote then you can use the PowerPoint ones and edit and customize all you want.

If you have Adobe Illustrator then the eps maps would work and you can custom the maps

And if you have neither of these you can use the jpg versions of the maps. The jpgs will go into iPhoto or any photo editing program you might have such as Adobe Photoshop. And if you don't have a photo editing program other than iPhoto then you could use an online one like Picnik to edit and customize http://www.picnik.com/

All of these formats come included for the one price on or subscription site www.bjdesign.com or if you just need a single map then check out www.mapsfordesign.com, or individual site.

United Kingdom in All Its Detail

One of our favorite PowerPoint maps is our United Kingdom map. This map which includes England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland is broken down by administrative districts. To get this map we had to contact and license it from Great Britain's Ordnance Survey (OS). I think they are kind of like our US Geological Survey with some Copyright Office thrown in. This map took a long time to draw and I think it ended up pretty well. I enjoy working on these complex map, I often image myself in the areas that I am drawing.

This map is broken down by administrative districts includes surrounding countries, in color with district names and capitals, editable objects. Very detailed map for building sales and marketing territories and regions.

Like all of our maps the administrative districts are individual objects that can be colored and changed so you can build a regional territory map. Add a star for an office, change colors, edit text, pull out sections to highlight a region.

Each map comes already placed into a PowerPoint slide ready for customizing. Names, color, fully editable, PowerPoint map.
